July 31, 2013::KOG field trip

We started our school year off, today, with a visit to the Kokomo Opalescent Glass art glass company here. Honestly, I wasn't expecting it to be the serious business it is. I guess I thought we'd see a couple of artists making stained glass. I am happy to report, I was way off with that assumption.

With a long, long history, KOG is a major player in the art glass industry worldwide. Familiarly, they provided the glass for Cinderella's Castle at Disney World and the North Pole Tower in the movie, The Santa Clause. They are providers of glass tiles that line the platforms of the Washington DC Metro, and other projects in many countries. They make glass sheets as well as hot glass projects and stained glass creation and restoration. It was a busy place, both in the factory, and in the Op Shop where many visitors shop for gifts as well as supplies for art projects.

At the end of the 90 minute tour, the boys got to try their hand at a little glass cutting. A fascinating tour, and a fun way to kick off the Backroad School here in Indiana. Just another reason to live our new hometown.

July 30, 2013::skatin' in the 'Mo

Reeves discovered roller skating while visiting Nana and Poppy last week and wanted to take his brother, sister, and cousin. $2 Tuesdays may become a regular field trip. Brings back lots of high school memories. Couples skate, anyone?

July 28, 2013::beginning to feel like home

My parents are here with my niece, Emma...yes, Brice's favorite person in the world...that Emma. Boxes are being emptied at a brisk pace and everyone gathered around the table for our first Sunday night family dinner in Kokomo. It's beginning to feel like home.

July 27, 2013::my boy is home

After ten days away, Reeves is home!

He spent some time at Nana and Poppy's and went to Paleo Camp. Many thanks to my parents for their love, patience, and willingness to have him for so long. They even drove him all the way to Indiana!

During this time, he entirely missed the whole move to Kokomo. He hadn't even seen the new house before today. I've heard stories of kids who go away to camp and their parents move...never thought I'd be one of those parents. Ah, well. We sure did miss him and we are glad he's home.

July 26, 2013::the cat's worst nightmare

So, we tranquilized the cat and brought her to Kokomo on Wednesday. She never did sleep, but mewed pitifully the whole trip. We got her here and put her in the empty laundry room with her litter box, food, and bed. She sniffed around the doors, dryer vent hole and closet, but was happy mostly to hide in her kennel. The next morning, Todd woke me early and said we had a problem. As we went into the laundry, he said the cat was either dead or dying. The dryer vent hole is in the floor. Her head and shoulders were crammed in the hole and she was stock still. Todd touched her and she didn't move. He was all to pieces. I walked over to see if I could pick her up and he said, "Don't pick her up, you'll rip her head off!!" I picked her up easily and she lifted her head and said, "Mee-$&@-Ow!! I wake up from a hangover with my head stuck in a hole in someone else's house and all you can do is laugh? Hiss!!" She didn't speak to us again until this morning.

July 23, 2013::tired

Movers came today. I am so tired I can barely type, so I will simply share this photo of the stash our robber kitty had hidden under the armoire.

July 22, 2013::last night

Tonight is our last night in our old Queen Anne in Georgetown. Movers arrive tomorrow and we'll stay with a friend tomorrow night. I am trying to see past the boxes and enjoy the fine woodwork and listen to the memories of the last six years here. I turn a corner or enter a room and hear the words of a conversation or my husband's laughter. It's been a good home.

Reeves is at camp in Tennessee this week, but Embree and Brice are finding time to still be kids. I found this gem on my phone tonight. A nice reminder of why exactly we are making this move.

July 21, 2013::wallpaper

A peak at the wallpapers that currently grace our new home. Not old enough to be vintage, but well on the way. Don't know if we'll keep any of it, but some is going by Aug 1, I guarantee. Enjoy!

July 20, 2013::our garden

We met the former owners of our new home yesterday at closing. They are avid gardeners and left us with some real beauty in our yard. I hope we can do it justice...or at least have my parents and their green thumbs visit often!

Tomorrow...the many wallpapers of our new home.
