Feb 3, 2014::a little something

I am hard into an obsession with knitting. For so many years, a ball of yarn intimidated me. It was like a piece of blank paper...so much potential in the nothingness.

Now, though, I see hats, scarves, socks, mittens...I am overwhelmed with list of things I want to make.

I, too, am overwhelmed with the growth of the stash of yarn I have tucked away, and the growing number of needles and paraphernalia I need. Every time I start something new, I need a new needle size. What started out, three months ago, as a ball of yarn and single pair of needles has multiplied again and again.

Recently, I came across a deal I couldn't refuse. Fourteen sets of double pointed needles, in fourteen different sizes, for the price I would pay for three sets at the yarn store. Yes, I am aware that this is a rationalization, but I ordered them.

This is how they came...

Can you imagine? I keep all of my needles and notions in one large bag. My knitting teacher asked me if I had a kid in there when she saw the mess. Was I really going to add seventy new needles to the mix?

So, I came up with a little solution. I few nights of garter stitch. An opportunity to practice yarn changes, and felting...and ta da!

A chance to use an embroidered pin I made years ago, and I have a little rough hewn organization.

At least when this obsession turns into something new, I will be able to pass along my needles in a neat little package.

Jan 14, 2014::hibernating

I am excited to be taking part in a workshop with Heather at Her beautiful blog, Beauty That Moves (beautythatmoves.typepad.com). This is my third workshop with her. I previously enjoyed the Whole Food and 30 Day Vegan workshops and couldn't wait for this one.

I have always loved January because it is a time of renewal and growth in my little world. Instead of getting stir crazy, I enjoy the hunkered down, dark, snowy days when we don't need and excuse to stay home and just be. This workshop won't be a stretch for me, but a time to gather new ideas for my favorite time of the year.

Today, I am making chai, enjoying the first lessons in hibernation.

Dec 24, 2013::plans

Last night, in a family conversation about where our kids see themselves in twenty years, our youngest shared his plans.

When he is one year older than his daddy, he will marry the first girl who meets him at the marrying place.

They will have a house and four kids.

On March 28, they will have a baby girl, Gabriella.

On March 29, they will have their first baby boy, named Sudden Rain.

He will be followed on consecutive days by his two younger brothers, named Sure and Twas the Night Before Christmas.

He has such specific plans. I can't wait to see his life in twenty years.
